I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and was prescribed metformin to help keep my blood glucose levels under control. While I don't require daily BGL monitoring, my NP suggested I might want to purchase a testing kit to track my progress.
After doing some research, I ordered this CareTouch Blood Glucose Monitoring System because it had good reviews and I liked the fact that it includes just about everything I needed in one kit. So far, I've been happy with my purchase. I appreciate that CareTouch included batteries for the glucometer, a carrying case, two count packs of testing strips, a lancing device, and lancets.
The only thing it didn't include was CareTouch Control Solution, which is advised to test the system before using it the first time, when opening a new pack of testing strips, etc. It took me a little while to track down the solution Amazon didn't have it in stock at the time I purchased this kit , but when I finally found it and tested my new system, the result was in range so I was good to go.
The system seems to work well, though sometimes it's a little challenging to remove a single testing strip from the container they often stick together , and sometimes I'm not quick enough after inserting the testing strip to clean and prick my finger and squeeze out a large enough droplet of blood, so the screen will go blank or give me an error before it reads my blood sample.
Hopefully I'll get more efficient in the testing process with continued use. The first time I tried this kit, I did two fasting glucose tests a few minutes apart; one read and the next read , so I'm not sure what would have accounted for a point difference in just a few minutes.
It does lead me to wonder about the accuracy of the reader. But overall, it's been working well and generally seems to be within a correct range. I did a fasting BGL test around noon today and it read In summary, I feel this CareTouch kit is a great value and a good choice for newly diagnosed diabetics.
It's fairly easy to use, although I did read the entire user's manual vs. the quick-reference guide to make sure I understood exactly how to operate it before using it for the first time. If I were a Type 1 diabetic or someone prone to diabetic emergencies like Diabetic Ketoacidosis or Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Syndrome , I might have more concerns about the accuracy of the system; but as someone just casually monitoring my BGLs in the leadup to my next appointment, I've been satisfied with the performance and value of this kit.

Monitor works great! Monitor is small and the test strips are very small so it may be a little awkward for men or anyone with large hands to use but I had no problems. Would recommend to buy. Pretty accurate at least with multiple testings. The case makes it easy to carry around and test almost anywhere. I've had several other glucometers in the past and was looking for something that was easy to use and that the strips, when needing more, didn't cost a huge amount.
I saw the reviews for this one and liked that they came with the case, 2 canisters of strips and, what I call the stabber. The kit came well packaged, and I was able to use it immediately after putting in the battery, which came with it.
Easy to get the strips in and the numbers are big enough to easily read. Though I've not tried it, I like the option for an alternative sight to stick. Glad I got this one as is it ecomonical and does the trick!
In general this full kit provides everything u need to monitor your blood sugar and it is a good value for that purpose. Other than my current monitor, it was the best and most affordable from among the several brands of testing kits I have tried.
I could rarely get accurate readings and also had a hard time getting enough blood from alternate parts of my body, using the lance. Mostly I was testing on my forearm. IF u are using alternate sites, I would suggest taking more than one reading and using more than one strip each time, so u can see if the two readings are close to the same, and therefore know whether your reading is fairly accurate.
I don't have diabetes, but I purchased this to have to monitor my levels. Works well, easy to use, keeps track of readings. Ease of use. Easy to get and to use it 😉.
